I’ve been on a binge reading spree of books like Million Dollar Weekend, E-Myth, The Business of Expertise, The Practice, and several other Seth Godin books. The books themselves carry so much insight, yet I find great difficulty in trying to reconcile the concepts that motivate business growth with exploring curiosity genuinely. It’s had me in this tailspin the past couple of days.
It makes me wonder where the line gets drawn between artistic integrity and egoistic pride. Is the purpose of a professional to create art for themself and allow the right audience to find it? Or is it to craft for the audience? How does a niche work when the product is the art? Who do we help by shipping art we make for ourselves? What is the role of curiosity in all of this? And is it supposed to be guided by our opportunities or our desires?
I keep coming back to these questions over and over because I have no answers. The more I read, the more confused I become.
